Poems 1

By JVT (Greenwood Hobbit):

If I should die when spring around is bursting
Life athirst for water, air and sun
Breathe in deeply, feel the fresh sap rising
Plant and grow, move on, the year’s begun.

If I should die when summer warms and ripens
Long the days, though my brief days are past
Feel the warmth and look toward the harvest
Fruitful live, and fruitful pass at last.

If I should die when autumn leaves are falling
Gather some in, the amber, russet, gold
Scatter them round me, all the while recalling
The new leaf’s in the bud when dies the old.

If I should die when winter’s fierce and frosty
Cold the land and cramped the daylight hours
Remember that the winter cleans and purges
And amidst it all, the snowdrop flowers.

Whenever I should die, it’s a beginning
The wheel moves on, its journey never ends
So think of me - or not - as it seems fitting
I live on in my family and friends

"The Messenger"
by Scout B.:

Swift Widfara of Rohan

On a glorious steed

Delivers a message

Shhh....listen. It is very important.

Laugh. Laugh often.

Ask for help. Any and every time you need it.

Take the time to do something for somebody else. Today. And tomorrow.

Tell others what they mean to you. Even if it's embarrassing.

Laugh again.

Realize that Middle-Earth is in each of us. It is so near, we can touch it. We only need to reach out to each other.

Fantasize. We can talk to Gandalf, if we really try.

Her final message hurts the most because she delivered it without reading it:

Remember hope. It's always there. Even in the darkest hour.

“Rider of Rohan”
By Aydria Elenlinn:

I dreamed I walked in Rohan,
A country wide and clean -
Rolling hills and grassy fields,
And all was emerald green.

And as I watched, a lady came
All clad in robes of white,
Smiling as she swiftly rode
Through fields of clover bright.

She stopped then and regarded me,With bright and clever eyes
That shone with strength and wisdom
No evil could disguise.

"Fair lady," I then asked her,
"Where now are you bound?
What name is given thee so fair
Who rides the hills around?"

She smiled then, and looking down,
Gave answer to my plea:
"I am Widfara of Rohan -
Please, come and ride with me!"

Over the country did we ride,
Through landscapes vast and fair,
The bright sunlight was in her eyes,
The cool wind in her hair.

    We rode for countless seasons,
And talked as best of friends.
It always seemed that springtime
Would never find an end.

But one day when the leaves turned gold,
With hint of coming fall,
She turned her head and listened
As though she heard a call.

    "Where art thou going, Widfara,
On this new fashioned day?
I know something has changed,
But what, I cannot say."

"I must ride west and seek new fields
Far from fair Rohan's walls,
But you can always hear my voice,
In the sweet robin's call."

And turning then into the sun,
She rode into the west,
Seeking for worlds beyond our own,
And for eternal rest."
    ----
Requiescat in pace, Widfara... we'll miss you.

By The Lidless Eye:

There is a place to escape to.
A sanctuary, a refuge
Where you can cry all your tears
And laugh until the cares vanish from your heart.
A place for you to find your name.
A place every creature understands one another.
There is a place you can look into your heart.
A place the sun shines upon your back.
A place where the waters of the ocean are warm with the sun's light
The gulls wheel and cry, hovering between sea and sky
And the sea meets the shore
The shore meets the forest
Where eagles spiral ever higher above the trees
Where what we call civilization, has not yet touched the forest or the sea.
Will you come with me to this sanctuary of the spirit?
Where gentle breezes whisper through your hair
The trees, the sea, every creature knows their true name
And you have all your heart could truly desire.
Will you go with me?

By smokering:

October 24, when I learned--
Learned a lot
Learned about you--
the words engraved by stabbing searing steel
upon our hearts

Robin
bright-eyed, quick, chirpy
What drove you to leave
those whom you loved?
The story plays on,
but without you to see.
You were meant for times of peace
not the Shadow
not the dark
not the night.

You left us the memories of laughter and love
We mourn for what might have been for us, for you
You!  Of all the world!
to leave it, seeing only dark
because you gave your light away.

And yet
ripples of human
contact
spread from you still.  How?
You cannot touch so many people with hands dipped in love
and leave no mark
upon our hearts.

By Nazgul_Kidney:

Once welling tears caramelize and burn
breathing away in to a honey haze.
my murky lenses prism my sight.
I'll paint a stead from cloud and ride.

Over the sky to a shimmering lonely sea.
Walking on shores of shattered jewels.
Waves crashed and broke all the more.
Dancing with a white pallid diamonds light.

I strode upon the impossible shore.
Until I bleed, cut and soar.
Willowing through the murk I spied an alabaster ship

By Eärwen Swan Maiden Of Alqualondë:

Life is such a fragile thing
It braves the storm on paper wings
And when it crashes no one cares
Except when that life might be theirs

By Overlithe28

Cradled in the arms of the Father She has crossed over where
We cannot yet follow.
Remembered, loved and longed for,
Until at last we see her again.

She knew pain, and some darkness.
now only love and light will she ever behold.
We know where it is she has gone
And find comfort yet the sadness
Of those left behind remains until
At last we see her again.
