In memoriam - Wídfara of Rohan
Wídfara
Alnilam's suggestion below sparked this.  I've set up a very basic page at the moment, but could quite easily do additions and other linked pages with art, etc.  I do need help, though, to pull together all the wonderful things that have been said in the past few days.  If anyone is able and willing to collect them that would be a great help.

Also the idea of a message board where people could make comments is great - I cannot set one up myself through this site, but if someone else can do it I could link to it from any and all pages.

Email me at celb@uci.net if you're interested.

An excellent and admirable start!  As much as I'd like to help gather all the many wonderful thoughts that have been expressed over the last few days, RL just won't let me right now.  However, I'm sure there will be many gracious volunteers.

I will definitely email my personal rememberances of Widfara this weekend.  Thanks again to you for doing this and Alnilam for the idea!

It was a consideable shock to all of us on Tuesday.  The TORn family have really come together in support and love.  It's been wonderful to witness, be a part of and (in my case) directly benefit from.

Robin will be missed forever.

Blessed Be,

Your tribute was quite poignant.
In my life I've had the misfortune of having two friends take their own lives.
The result is always bewildering, at the very least.
You said: "I didn't always have time to respond right then, sometimes it took till night.  I know that such delays couldn't have contributed to her decision, but nevertheless I now wish that I'd been quicker - maybe she would have felt more loved, more needed.  There's no way to find out." I hope that there is no need to tell you that you should not beat yourself up with those kinds of questions. The decisions that lead to anyone taking their own lives can be quite complicated as you well know. Some can be the result of a change in medicinal doses.
I don't claim to know anything about Wid's personal tragedy. I only offer my condolences. Take care...

Widfara is dead??? Is this really really true? Or is this some kind of really sick joke?  Because if so it's in extremely bad taste.

I am so shocked that I have just burst into tears.  Although I never e-mailed her personally, we did exchange some comments via this message board and I really appreciated her sense of humour, good nature and common sense.  I always looked forward to reading her messages.

I've been so busy this week that I've had no time to drop into TORn so this has come as a complete shock.

I shall miss her greatly and I shan't forget her in a hurry.

Wherever you may be Widfara, I send you my best wishes.

Subject:  The Reading for Widfara
Message:
Greetings!
The board seems so lively and happy today! Earlier, I laughed hard at several posts for the first time in many days. I hope this post doesn't bring the mood down.

I thought all of Widfara's friends would want to see the final version of the reading for the memorial service at 4 pm CST today. I wish I could be there in person, but I will most certainly be there in spirit. I would like to thank Scout B for her eloquence in writing the eulogy, along with the help of Celandine Brandybuck and Mirkwood Maiden, and deepest gratitude to the good Professor for composing Bilbo's Last Song and to Watson for suggesting it. I sent the reading to Wid's friend, Pat, last night. She wrote this morning to say that the song has helped her deal with her loss and the grief. It's nice to know we've all done something to ease the pain. I know that Widfara is smiling gratefully from the shores of Valinor.
-Mrs. B.

"Robin loved J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and was an active member of a community on a fan Web site.  As in other areas of her life, she touched many people she met through the site and her kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed.  In Tolkien's world, many characters do not experience death in the traditional sense; they simply leave Middle Earth from the Gray Havens and live out their days in the blessed land of Valinor.

It is a sanctuary of beauty, healing, and understanding.  It is a place where those who struggled with pain or anguish are able to finally find peace. Robin's friends from The One Ring (dot) Net are grateful to have known her and hope that she has found peace in that wonderful place.

The following passage is Tolkien's "Bilbo's Last Song at the Grey Havens;" her friends believe it captures the essence of Tolkien's inspired world and the inspirational spirit of Robin as they knew her."

Day is ended, dim my eyes,
but journey long before me lies.
Farewell, friends! I hear the call.
The ship's beside the stony wall.
Foam is white and waves are grey;
beyond the sunset leads my way.
Foam is salt, the wind is free;
I hear the rising of the Sea.

Farewell, friends! The sails are set,
the wind is east, the moorings fret.
Shadows long before me lie,
beneath the ever-bending sky,
but islands lie behind the Sun
that I shall raise ere all is done;
lands there are to west of West,
where night is quiet and sleep is rest.

Guided by the Lonely Star,
beyond the utmost harbour-bar,
I'll find the havens fair and free,
and beaches of the Starlit Sea.
Ship, my ship! I seek the West,
and fields and mountains ever blest.
Farewell to Middle-earth at last.
I see the Star above your mast!

J.R.R. Tolkien, Bilbo's Last Song at the Grey Havens

I've been thinking of this passage since yesterday.

“But to Sam the evening deepened to darkness as he stood at the Haven; and as he looked at the grey sea he saw only a shadow on the waters that was soon lost in the West. There still he stood far into the night, hearing only the sigh and murmur of the waves on the shores of Middle-earth, and the sound of them sank deep into his heart. Beside him stood Merry and Pippin, and they were silent.

At last the three companions turned away, and never again looking back they rode slowly homewards; and they spoke not word to one another until they came back to the Shire, but each had great comfort in his friends on the long grey road."

I think I'm going to cry again.

Bless you and Mrs B and Watson and all Tornsibs for just being here; for organising things so senitively, for the information you have imparted over the last two days; and for the deeply moving love and respect everyone has shown.

This truely is a very special place.

There may be 'one less place at our table, but there is one more star in the sky' now; it's name is Widfara.

I keep feeling like all I have to do is stick my hand out and it will be clasped - that's how close I feel all of you are, and Wid.

Thanks for posting it Mrs. Boromir.  And thanks also to Scout B, Celandine Brandybuck and Mirkwood Maiden.  I wish I could express better how amazing you all are.  Thank you for giving us all a voice for Widfara's friends and family to see how very special she IS.

That eulogy hit the spot perfectly , I feel.  I thought of Wid today and sent her my love.  Glad to know that Tolkien's words are bringing comfort to some of her friends, as I know they do to all of us, daily.  Thanks Mrs Boromir - keep smiling!
